Constitution & Bylaws

Constitution

The Constitution is an integral part of Dehcho First Nations Government process. The draft Dehcho Agreement in Principle states in Chapter 6 that a Dehcho Constitution will define what type of governing bodies will exist and the leaders will be democratically selected, either through a traditional process or by election. The Constitution will also provide for accountability rules, the protections for Dehcho Citizens and residents, as well as the role of the Dehcho Assembly and referendums.

A draft Constitution has been developed and is currently being reviewed. Once consultations with community members is completed, it will be posted on the website.

Bylaws

The Dehcho First Nation’s Bylaws are important to maintain the communities regulation, government of our members and management of our affairs. They include conditions of membership, members’ meetings, the board of directors and its meetings, the duties of officers, committees and execution of documents.
